“People have a hard time conceptualizing very large numbers, so let’s give this some context. The current Credit Crisis bailout is now the largest outlay In American history.

• Marshall Plan: Cost: $12.7 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $115.3 billion
• Louisiana Purchase: Cost: $15 million, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $217 billion
• Race to the Moon: Cost: $36.4 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $237 billion
• S&L Crisis: Cost: $153 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $256 billion
• Korean War: Cost: $54 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $454 billion
• The New Deal: Cost: $32 billion (Est), Inflation Adjusted Cost: $500 billion (Est)
• Invasion of Iraq: Cost: $551b, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $597 billion
• Vietnam War: Cost: $111 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $698 billion
• NASA: Cost: $416.7 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $851.2 billion

do you ever see something and just wonder how the fuck it ever came out of someone’s head? like, someone not only thought of this, but they were able to MAKE it, and i can’t wrap my brain around it.

anyway, this is one of those things. i think the textures get me the most.. i want to touch everything.

today’s smoothie: pomegranate-mango & orange juice, a large banana*, frozen blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, frozen mango chunks (mmm), and flax seed.

i think if i would have tried flax in a smoothie when i was younger, the little seeds crunching between my teeth would have driven me crazy. but now i love it — they’re like little surprises! the taste is kind of starchy and nutty and very whole-grainy. i buy them whole; i’m sure you know the whole spiel about leaving grains with the bran intact.

i had completely forgotten until now that i used to have to take 2 giant flax seed oil supplements every day for my dry eyes in north carolina. for the most part that issue was resolved when i moved to MA and my allergies cleared up, but hey! i’m getting fiber AND omega-3 fatty acids! but i better calm the hell down before i get hydrogen cyanide poisoning.

OK I’M DONE NERDING OUT NOW

*angela upon seeing plantains at the grocery store “SOMETHING ISN’T RIGHT WITH THESE BANANAS.” of COURSE my grocery store would have plantains. and 2 varieties of bananas. and three ethnic food aisles. but no ben & jerry’s half-baked frozen yogurt.

in other news, it is 67 degrees outside. wuuuuuuuuuuuhht
